When it comes to Hitman: Absolution, pre-order means pre-play. In a move that could have ramifications for what it means to pre-purchase a videogame, Square Enix and GameStop have revealed Hitman: Sniper Challenge, a standalone Agent 47 experience, complete with online leaderboards and monthly prizes, that Hitman: Absolution pre-order customers will be able to play on PC beginning in August. That's almost four months before Absolution's just announced November 20 release.
I've gotta admit, I'm not a pre-order guy. The various skins and weapons typically provided for buying a game before it's released do nothing for me. But an entire standalone game? Now you're talking.
The rundown on Hitman: Sniper Challenge from Square:
Players can don the suit of Agent 47 as he takes on an exclusive assassination assignment. From a balcony overlooking a rooftop gathering, players will be tasked with taking out Richard Strong, Jr., CEO of Stallion Armaments, along with his entire staff of bodyguards. Skilled players will capitalize on score multipliers, hidden secrets, unlock equipment upgrades and marvel at the many creative ways one can discretely dispose of a body while they work to fulfil their contract in the most efficient way possible.
Hitman: Absolution pre-orders open on May 15. The Steam download of Hitman: Sniper Challenge will be ready for download on August 1. Sniper Challenge is a GameStop exclusive.
